Trusting In Good

Individuals that do not trust in God do not trust in His wisdom or guidance or goodness. The good that He provides comes in many shapes and sizes.

Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Luke 18:19: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Those without trust in God will call evil good and good evil.

Isaiah 5:20: Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Truth is good. One without trust in God will trust in lies.

Jeremiah 7:8: Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

Life is good. One without trust in God will not value life.

Eternal life is better. One without trust in God will not want that.

Unless God providentially intervenes, individuals without trust in Him will not trust in good churches or other good things. They will trust in bad churches or none at all. A husband without trust in God will not trust in a good wife. He will trust in a bad one or none at all. A wife without trust in God will not trust in a good husband. She will trust in a bad one or none at all. A patient without trust in God will not trust in a good doctor. He will trust in a bad one or none at all. A sick person without trust in God will not trust in good medicine. He will trust in bad medicine or none at all. A citizen without trust in God will not trust in a good government. He will trust in a bad government or none at all.

Jeremiah 17:5-6: Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

The list of good things that an individual without trust in God would not trust could go on for pages. The lives of those without trust in God are spoiled in hundreds of ways. Anything good that happens to them is only temporary. From my perspective in dealing with many elderly folk, the longer they have been without trust in God, the more they are unable to see good on any level. The longer they have trusted in God, the more they are able to see good on every level. Younger people who have not trusted God for a shorter time seem to have less disdain for good.

1 Peter 3:10-11: For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

Just as Christians grow closer to God, unbelievers seem to grow farther away from Him and from good.

2 Timothy 3:13: But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
